Directions: To the take-out from Ball Ground- take Hwy 372 south about 3 miles to the bridge, parking is on left after bridge. From the take-out to the put-in continue on Hwy 372 south for about 4 miles. Take a left onto Hwy 369, go about 1.5 miles and take a left onto Yellow Creek Rd. The dirt road to the put in is on your right just after the bridge.
The weather is starting to get cooler so we are trying to squeeze in as much kayaking as possible okay to get in the water without a wetsuit. We went out with a couple friends of ours last weekend and had a blast.
We put in at Yellow Creek Road in Ball Ground. The first stretch was a little bit of work because the river is very flat there. Not too long down stream we encountered several shoals. The water level is getting kind of low so it was a little sticky, but navigable if you choose your path wisely. We took out at the bridge on Hwy 372. The bank under the bridge is steep but off to the left there are some steps that lead up a mud bank to an easier grade take out just before the bridge. You are on your own for transport as there is no outfitter or shuttle service here.
This part of the river is great for beginners due to the utter lack of danger. It’s about a 5 mile stretch. It took us about 4 hours but we pulled off several times along the way to hang out and grab a cold drink. We were also trying to milk it because the day was so nice.
