North Georgia Kayaking - Etowah River
Nov 22nd, 2009 by Admin 1
A couple of months ago I took my father on his first official kayaking trip. I wanted to do a shorter trip and stick as close to home as possible so I figured we’d give the Etowah River a try. I assumed it wouldn’t be the best leg of the river being so close into town. I was right! Although it was still good to get out with the pops, the amount of trash along the river banks was stupid. It would be really nice if someone would clean that crap up! How about doing your little reinvestment act on that part of the river instead of paving perfectly good roads?
Anyway, the trek took about an hour and a half and it ended up being about 6-8 river miles from Boling Park to the Knox Bridge boat ramp where we took out. If you decide to travel this part of the river expect to work for it. This part of the river is no more than a Class I and you will do a lot of paddling. To end on a good note, we did get to see some wildlife like an egret, a hawk and a few other birds.
