A few weeks ago we did some kayaking on a small section of the Etowah River between Old Federal Rd. and Yellow Creek Rd. Generally this stretch is slow and calm with a few shoals making it perfect for beginners. Its about four miles long and can be done in a few hours tops unless you stop off along the way and make it last longer. The one main thing I liked about this section is that with the water levels low currently, this is one place where you rarely bottom out. If your looking for a few more shoals you may want to try the next section paddling from Yellow Creek to Hwy 372 but expect to hit bottom several times during the trip until the water levels rise.
