New Trails in Cartersville

I returned to do a hike in Cartersville yesterday. Something I’ve been wanting to do for a while is check on the Connector Trail that I posted about back in February so when I got there I was happy to see it was done. The trail links the Laurel Ridge Trail and Cooper Branch Nature Trail to the Pine Mountain Trail (East Loop) and the Pine Mountain Rec Area together adding an additional (0.5 miles approx.) to the existing trail system. This connection trail, like the others in the area, is very well built. Near the end of the Connector Trail the Professional Trail Builders Assosiation has built an impressive semi circle footbridge over a run-off area and you can tell it’s not their first bridge. I would have liked to snap a shot but my camera is broken, looks like its time for another one.
Arriving at the other end where the trail meets up with the Pine Mountain East Loop parking lot I noticed what looks like it may be a new trail being worked on marked with blue blazes. I took the trail and it ascends straight, and when I say straight I mean it has to be one of the straightest I’ve ever been on, up and over the mountain and down the other side passing somewhere to the left of the overlook that the west and east loop lead to. If it is a new trail its a great leg workout and is bound to get your heart rate going right away.

FYI…….I have hiked quite a bit on Pine Mtn. Some time ago I had seen the “blue trail” and contacted the Cartersville Park and Rec about it. I was told that this is not actually a trail but is the property boundry.
Well that is a shame. Kind of liked the idea of having that available for a good workout. Oh well. Thanks for the info Lewis.
