Technical socks from Wigwam

Some of you may have seen an earlier review of mine on vortex backpacks and the comments that continue from those who share the same opinion of their quality. I mention it because Wigwam, who are manufacturers of technical socks for all sorts of activities, continues to stand out in my opinion for the quality they offer to the outdoor community. They have an impressive selection of socks geared towards winter sports, backpacking, biking, trail running and basically anything else you can think of. My family and I spend a lot of time pursuing outdoor activities and between us we have five different socks that they make. I plan to buy their socks whenever we need more because I have been impressed that they are all made exceptionally well. I have had many different wool socks, hiking socks over the years and they were nice but many times they were too bulky all the way from the toe to the top and were tolerable for a while but it didn’t take long before I was seeing toes pop out and callused heels protruding. Others that I have had were constantly slipping down and disappearing into my hiking boot yadda yadda. Fast-forward to today, and strides have been taken, thank goodness, to avoid some of these annoyances . Thank you Wigwam!
- The Merino/Silk Nomad seen right is a versatile full length sock which is
probably the one I use the most. Its comfortable, thinner than several other brands without sacrificing a comfortable cushioned sole. It wicks moisture incredibly well. Its designed with a breathable mesh for venting and is quite durable for snowboarding, backpacking or whatever activity you decide to do! This one is a must have for any gear junkies bag of tricks.
For trail running there are two that I currently use. The Nomad’s little counterpart the Merino/Silk Scout. The Scout has a nice dense sole that makes life a little easier on longer runs, vents very well and fits perfectly around the foot. The Scout has a virtually seamless toe enclosure as well as good breath-ability.
I also recently got the Trail Runner Pro which I think used to be called the Merino Wool Trail Runner II that I have had for a good while. The Trail Runner Pro is nice because of its extra thick cushiony instep and sole and is extremely comfortable. Plus, its patented moisture control system aids in keeping your feet free of blisters and helps keep them dry. I actually used these this last week during a rain storm on a good long run and they held up like champs! If you do any trail running you should look into these in my opinion.
My wife uses the Rebel Fusion Quarter and is every bit as happy with them as I am the other socks. These little gems have a cohesive moisture repelling liner that works great for keeping your feet dry. They are a tight, foot hugging sock that vents well. She will also be picking up some Cool-Lite Hiker Pro Quarters that she wants to try out.
The Mountain Air are another versatile sock that I use for several different activities but mostly snowboarding. They are a no itch wool fabric, thick and warm with a sure fit top that is less likely to slip down your leg which is nice as well as a fortified heel and toe for extra durability.
Founded in 1905 and located in Sheboygan, WI, Wigwam and its founders seem to have mastered their craft and in my opinion are one of the best sock manufacturer out there for their level of quality, professionalism and extensive selection and remain true to doing what they do best, produce great socks. Below I have listed the URL so you can check out their selection for yourselves: http://www.wigwam.com/index.html or here for a list of their retailers: http://www.wigwam.com/onlineusa.html in the United States. Of the retailers I know and deal with www.paragonsports.com sells them and is a top notch outdoor store which also has free shipping for orders $48.95 and up! Check em’ out.
