Salomon Explorer GTX Hiking Boot

I ordered these hiking boots back before the summer came around and feel I have logged enough man hours to be able to review them. I suspected these would live up to my expectations of a Salomon boot when I put them on for the
first time. These things are borderline flawless. One of the first things you may notice about these is how incredibly comfortable they are, and second, how dry they keep your feet. While hiking through about three inches of water through some gorges in upstate New York which are common in the finger lakes area The Salomon Explorer GTX Hiking Boot kept my feet dry the entire time. That was the first test. After some break in time on regular day hikes I used them for a backpacking trip on a section of the Appalachian Trail. The first day ended up being 19 miles of non-stop rain so the muddy wet trail was a perfect little test run. I pack pretty light (usually about 20-30 lbs tops) and these things performed well.
With Gore-Tex inserts and Contragrip soles to keep you on the trail these are a great pick for backpackers at just about any level. I will also add that for a boot with this much support there was very little breaking in needed!
