Pocket Trail - Armuchee-Cohutta Ranger District

One of the good things about living in the South is that you can still hike, camp, climb, etc. during the winter months. One of the hikes we like to do is The Pocket Trail. This is an easy-moderate 2.5 mile loop trail that begins in the day use picnic area and ends in the Pocket camping area. It begins and shortly passes through a hilly area while rising to a ridge. Then the trail drops down to a creek bed that is dry most of the time these days. For just about all of the first mile and a half the trail follows the inside ridge of the hills in this area. After the trail crosses over the third bridge, the topo starts to climb. This is last of the notable hills then it drops back down and flattens out for the rest of the way to the campground. Once you are in the campground area cross the bridges back to your vehicle.
