Mid-week camping in North Georgia

I was able to get a quick camping trip in mid-week with the kids and decided on Bear Creek in the Cohuttas. My wife was out of town for the week so it was a great chance for me to spend a little time (not working) with the kiddies.
If you happen to live anywhere near North Georgia and like to camp you should check it out. We love it because its very easy access. Its about 50-55 minutes from our home and the dirt road for the campground is only about a mile long. Compare that to the 10-12 mile dirt road journeys out there its a welcomed thing.
The area is well known in the southern mountain biking community for its great little network of trails. Aside from the very occasional trash left at a site, it is kept clean and those that visit tend to respect the area by maintain the pack it in/pack it out philosophy.
The main thing you should always remember is that you can help avoid bear attacks while camping in the Cohuttas by not bringing your food over to the campsite. Take advantage of the fact that you are car camping when you can and have a little picnic in the near-by parking pad. A bridge separates the camping area from the parking pad which is kind of nice. Car camping but not right next to your car.
The best part about this trip was the peace and quiet. There was no one up there the entire time so we had the place all to ourselves. The temperature was on the cooler side at night so it was perfect for sleeping.
