Dockery Lake Camping

Glorious! And no giant bees this time (see earlier post). Unfortunately, we didn’t have the camera, but we’re going back up there next weekend so I’ll add some pics then. We were able to get a great site on the lake and we had the kayak so it was perfect. The lake sites are spacious. They lack a little privacy as the loop trail cuts through them, but they’re spacious and your neighbors are far enough away that you don’t feel encroached upon. There aren’t a lot of sites there, but they’re all pretty good. And it’s cheap, only $8 per night.
The kids enjoy walking the small loop around the lake and it’s a great place for them to practice paddling. They are 8 and 5 so there aren’t a lot of other places we’ll let them take the kayak out by themselves. They had a blast.
Saturday we took the kids up the road and did a little day hike on the Appalachian Trail. We picked up the trail at Woody Gap and made our way to the giant outcropping at the top for a picnic. What an awesome view! After luch we continued on for as long as the kids could go before we turned back. We only made it about 5-6 miles, but it was such a great hike. There are so many rewards on this trail. Beautiful surroundings, great views, lots of big rocks for the kids to climb and jump off of.
Sunday we just relaxed, hung around the campsite, and took turns in the kayak. Great weekend.
