May 1st, 2008 by admin
Beginning August 5th, 2008, Karl Meltzer will be taking on the insane feat of running, thats right running the length of the Appalachian Trail. Starting at the northern terminus at Mt. Kathadin in Maine all the way to Springer Mountain in Georgia in less than 47 days.

Karl has been running the Wasatch Mountains since 1990 and competing since the early 90’s in the Pikes Peak Marathon and later races like the Wasatch 100 finishing 4th. After that he went on to compete in many other races creating quite a respectable record in his wake.

Extremely impressive! Good luck Karl. I am sure you are in fact mildly insane but you’ll pull it off and make it look easy in the process. I am sure by the end of it you will have seen your share of stunned through-hikers faces as you cruise by them running southbound. Don’t let the accosting chatty ones slow you down, just smile and keep running.
You can take comfort in the fact that these are hills compared to the Wasatch, right? I used to live along the Wasatch so I feel like maybe I can throw in my biased, semi-informed 2 cents.
